Christy Babrick
For several years Christy Babrick has been creating imaginative images that draw inspiration from fantasy, folklore, celestial, and children's book illustration.
She also finds a great deal of inspiration from nature, and the various natural landscapes of her home state of Michigan.
Christy enjoys working in a variety of media including; watercolor, black and colored inks, acrylic, pastel, and pencil. She occasionally creates art digitally, using Photoshop or Illustrator. She uses a variety of programs while working as a graphic tech, including QuarkXPress, Adobe Acrobat, and FreeHand. She also has gained an appreciation of the work it takes to meet deadlines.
Though she was awarded a scholarship to Kendall College of Art and Design, rather than pursuing a degree in illustration, Christy began working shortly after high school. For the most part, she has learned her technique for creating art from books, and practicing and experimenting on her own. Several art classes have also helped her to further develop her style.
She has created illustrations or licensed her images for a variety of uses and products. She also occasionally accepts private commissions. Her work is featured in the second and third volumes of The New Masters of Fantasy.
Though most of Christy's pictures are images of fantasy, she is inspired by many artists in several different areas of art. She enjoys gathering inspiration and reference material from a variety of sources, and views each work as a challenge to translate an idea into an actual image, as well as an opportunity to learn something new.
